PROJECTS: Operational effectiveness

We provide project, programme and change managers to leading organisations on an interim and contract basis - and our Associates have successfully completed hundreds of assignments involving operational effectiveness. Client confidentiality means the organisations described here cannot be identified. However, we can discuss these and many other projects in more detail at face-to-face meetings. CLIENT: major high street bank
ASSIGNMENT: mortgage change programme
ASSOCIATE PROVIDED: Programme Manager
DETAILS: as part of a strategy to achieve integration and drive efficiencies after a major acquisition, a strategic programme was initiated in the personal financial services division to support extensive changes to its UK mortgage portfolio; a key objective was to improve customer service and operational efficiency through the migration of all mortgage origination, servicing and arrears administration activity to a third party (reducing the number of mortgage systems from 13 to 3) Certain characteristics of the mortgage products added further complexity to the migration, while both the bank and outsourcer had to ensure full compliance with and authorisation from the FSA with regard to new mortgage regulations. The Associate was tasked with mobilising the programme to achieve successful migration as well as full compliance; the scope was later extended to include the technical deliverables associated with the new insurance regulations for the division as a whole, while the Associate also developed a permanent successor for the Programme Director role.
CLIENT: major financial services group
ASSIGNMENT: image and Workflow
ASSOCIATE PROVIDED: Project Manager
DETAILS: this Associate led a multimillion-pound project at a major financial services group to develop and install a centralised imaging and workflow system for six large operations centres. The 18-month programme was completed on schedule and 40% below the initial budget projections. (Full case study available on request)
CLIENT: large central government department
ASSIGNMENT: implementing an 'excellence in delivery' programme
ASSOCIATE: Project Manager
DETAILS: a Cabinet- and Treasury-led change initiative resulted in the 'achieving excellence in delivery' programme that aims to create a step change in the performance of this department and its capacity to deliver. The programme covers five areas: developing leadership and strategic focus; engaging stakeholders; managing delivery; workforce and skills; and financial management. This Associate was heavily involved in phase one: establishing an approach to workstream management, data gathering, and the analysis and categorisation of current initiatives. This involved numerous interviews (from board level to junior staff) across the Directorates, working with the internal business consultancy unit, designing and developing an activities database, and working with the divisional manager to agree the next phases.
