CLIENT: major high street bank
ASSIGNMENT: delivering a Shared Service Centre on a new ERP system
ASSOCIATE PROVIDED: Programme Manager
DETAILS: this Associate managed a large-scale project that included two consultancy firms, contractors and staff, and required the integration of several programme management methodologies to achieve a best-fit solution for all parties. Key responsibilities included: developing the strategy that recommended a Shared Service Centre (including business objectives, current state review, financial analysis, recommendations and stakeholder input); inception of the Shared Service Centre programme (outline plans, business case, staffing and project protocols); developing project methodologies (combining SAP methodology with Shared Service Centre methodology); review and sign-off of the project designs; and programme management from inception to implementation (plan management, change control, progress reporting, testing and implementation, and resource planning of 70 staff). The project, completed on time and to budget, was implemented across the organisation of around 7,000 staff.
CLIENT: large county council
ASSIGNMENT: IT project management - ICT fit-out
ASSOCIATE PROVIDED: ICT Project Manager
DETAILS: this project involved the installation of an integrated voice and data system at a large office site, linked to the county-wide WAN, to enable more flexible working in line with the council's 'workstyle' policy. Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) is a top priority project for the council, and involved the augmentation of a 100-strong team that included a mix of current, new and contract staff. The site had no existing IT infrastructure and underwent refurbishment before implementation; tight scheduling meant the ICT fit-out required a huge amount of off-site preparatory work and meticulous co-ordination of activities. The Associate was responsible for: planning the installation; monitoring and reporting progress; equipment orders; data migration plans; and close liaison and negotiation with ERP customers, asset management, technical services, contractors and suppliers, with the emphasis on risk management in light of the time scales.
CLIENT: leading mobile telecoms provider - products integration division
ASSIGNMENT: IT management - integration
ASSOCIATE PROVIDED: Programme Manager
DETAILS: this Associate assumed a 'troubleshooting' role to identify and fix key issues relating to 35 projects involving 220 internal staff, external consultants and a spend of over £50m. Activities included: implementing changes in the organisation and structure to ensure a clear focus on delivery; setting up specialist integration teams; and implementing standard practices to tighten controls and management of deliverables, configuration, release, risk and issues. Previously, projects were running two months late and slipping week-on-week; after reorganisation, the required products were successfully integrated, tested, deployed and delivered on time.
